With all but provisional votes counted, Travis Rogers, 29, of Burkville, is the unofficial winners of the Lowndes County Board of Education District 5 seat.
Rogers, a court specialist 3 in the Lowndes County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, defeated Joe Pernell 151 to 138 in the Democratic Primary Runoff Tuesday night.
Rogers received 52.25 percent of the vote to 47.75 percent for Pernell.
“I thought it was a fair race,” Rogers said of his election. “I’m happy about the results of the race. This is something I’ve wanted to do for the past eight years.”
A total of 580 people voted in the Lowndes County Democratic and Republican Primaries.
Here’s how the runoff vote broke down in other races in Lowndes County:
On the Cotton Checkoff Amendment, Lowndes County posted 323 votes in favor to 131 votes against. The amendment would allow cotton farmers to decide if their current voluntary checkoff program should become permanent.
In the Republican Primary Runoff, Lowndes County residents voted for Reese McKinney over John Merrill 121 to 27 for Secretary of State; for Jim Zeigler over Dale Peterson 94 to 47 for State Auditor and for Terry Dunn over Chris “Chip” Beeker Jr.72 to 68.or Public Service Commission Place No. 2.
