The Lowndes Academy Rebels saw what second year head baseball coach Shane Moye called a “good season” come to a close in the second round of the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) AA state baseball playoffs.

However, Moye said, he sees a bright future for Lowndes Academy baseball.

The Rebels finished the 2014 season at 16 and 11 and bowed out in the second round of the playoffs at the hands of Autauga Academy.

“It was a good season,” said Moye. “The seniors won 37 games in two years under me as a coach. Their hard work and dedication will truly be missed.”

Moye said, however, he hoped the success of baseball during his tenure is a beginning for a program that is on the rise.

He said the Rebels were led by Garrett Headley who hit .437 with four home runs and 36 runs batted in.

He said Corey Lowe hit .390 with 28 RBIs, Seth Senn had 25 RBIs and David Hussey hit .386.

According to Moye, Thomas Ward and Michael Scribner played outstanding in the outfield, while Wade Howard was outstanding on the mound.

He said, “Gray Johnson was a huge part of our success as well.” And, he said, Connor Franklin had a 1.81 ERA as a pitcher.

“We look forward to next season and have a lot of young kids in the program that we are excited about,” Moye said. “The future looks good for Lowndes Academy baseball.”

Lowndes Academy played Russell Christian Academy in the first round of the AA state playoffs and lost 4 to 1 in the first game of the best two out of three series. However, the Rebels bounced back to win the second game 8 to 3 and the third game 11 to 0.

In the second round, Autauga Academy beat the Rebels 8 to 1 and 6 to 2 to end the Rebels’ season.

The team included Headley, Lowe, Senn, John Blackmon, Chad Shaner, Jake Wheeler and Taylor Gray, all seniors; Franklin, Ward, Ryan Tindoll and Scribner, all juniors; David Hussey, Johnson, Owen Nall and Alex Thrash, all sophomores; Howard and Jimbo Wheeler, both freshmen; Brian Rayburn and Ford Rosser, both eighth graders.
