Going into battle for only the second time under acting head football coach Dewayne Williams, the Calhoun Tigers gave a pretty good account of themselves before the home crowd against the Highland Home Flying Squadron.
The 4-3, 4-1 Flying Squadron dispatched the now 1-6, 1-4 Tigers but by a margin that was closer than one might have expected 28-18.
The Flying Squadron went up 14-0 over Calhoun only to see the Tigers come back to make a 14-12 contest at the half.
The Tigers took the lead briefly 18-14 but the Flying Squadron replied going up 21-18, which was where the score remained until the final three minutes of the contest when Highland Home went up 28-18 to make it a final.
For Calhoun, Jeffery Moss scored on a 60 yard run and Jamarcus Davison scored on two long runs.
Williams called it a “hard fought ballgame.”
Calhoun will next face Elba on the road.
