Central High’s respite from losing was short lived as the Goshen Eagles proved rude homecoming guests Friday night, downing the Lions 38-6.

Central, now 1-6, 1-4 was coming off its first win in five years having defeated Zion Chapel 38-12. But the now 3-4, 3-2 Eagles coasted to a regional victory.

Disappointed Central High head football coach James Bibb said, “Even though Goshen is a touch opponent, we didn’t show up. We went completely blank tonight. I don’t know it if was a lot of outside distraction or what, but we didn’t show up to play tonight.”

Bibb said he was glad no one got hurt. He also said his Lions did get one score and got to let some young players into the game. But he said, “It’s time now where we’re going to stop accepting moral victories. We want to get to the next level.”

Goshen head football coach Bart Snyder said it was ” a little better effort on our end… We’re very proud of our guys and how they played four quarters. We’ve still got a ways to go. I know here it is right here at the end of the season, but we take them one at a time.”

For the Eagles Deangelo Orum rushed five times for 61 yards and completed four of six passes for 109 years.

Goshen scored at the 8:20 mark of the first quarter following a Damian Brundidge fumble recovery. Ja’Michael Jones took the ball on a 2-yard touchdown run, and Daniel Macias added the point after.

Orum scored next on a 10-yard run at the 6:21 mark of the first quarter, and the point after was good.

Jalen Psalmonds scored on a 10-yard run at the 10:22 mark of the third quarter with the point after good. And Macias kicked a 31-yard field goal to put the Eagles up 24-0 at the half.

DeErrius Kite scored on a 1-yard run at the 8:03 mark of the third quarter with the point after good to make it 31-0.

And Stevie Rodgers caught a 21-yard touchdown pass, which along with the point after, made it 38-0 with 3:10 left in the game.

Central finally got on the board with less than a minute left in the contest when Ladarious Thicklin scored from five yards out.

Central will next host New Brockton.
