The Goshen Eagles survived a slugfest of a football game against 2A Region 3 opponent the Calhoun Tigers on the road in Letohatchee Friday night, winning 26-22.

The win improved the Eagles to 2-2 and 2-1 in regional play while the Tigers fell to 1-3, 1-2 in region play.

“We had our chances. I was pleased with them,” Calhoun head football coach Bill Williamson of his Calhoun Tigers who led late in the fourth quarter. “A tough one to lose.”

Williamson recognized the play of quarterback Jamine Jordan, Jamarcus Davison, who had some great runs, and Jamichael Jones on defense.

“We knew coming over here that coach Williamson is by far one of the best coaches that there is,” said Goshen head football coach Bart Snyder. He called the Tigers a talented team.

“On the other hand we’re beat up,” Snyder said of his own club. “We’ve got four lineman that are out. I had to make a makeshift line and it kind of showed.”

However Snyder said, “We came out here with a win so we’ll take that.”
Snyder liked the play of his quarterback DeAngelo Orum and Terrainno (Taz) Griffin.

After a scoreless first quarter, Goshen struck first on 6-yard Orum run and point after touchdown by Daniel Macias at the 11:54 mark of the second quarter.

Calhoun answered on 52-yard Davison score and 2-point conversion pass from Jamine Jordan to Quincy Robinson at the 7:27 mark of the third quarter.

Goshen answered that with a 4-yard run by D’Errius Kite and PAT to go up 14-8 at the 1:16 mark of the second quarter.

But Calhoun responded with a 70-yard Davison kickoff return for a score and 2-point conversion by Arthur Phifer with 1:03 left in the half to lead 16-14.

Goshen took the lead again on a 1.5-yurd Orum run at the 5:40 mark of the third quarter to go up 20-16.

Davison would answer on a 1-yard run to put the Tigers up 22-16 with 8:22 left in the game.

But Griffin settled the contest with a 10-yard run with 4:37 left in the game to put the Eagles up for good 26-22.

Griffin was the leading rusher for Goshen with 106 yards on 11 carries. Orum was 3 of 6 passing for the Eagles with two interceptions. But he rushed 8 times for 75 yards.

Calhoun put up 371 yards of total offense in the heart-breaking loss including 228 yards through the air and 143 yards on the ground.
Davison accounted for 114 or those yards.

Jordan had five tackles and two assists for the Tigers, Jones had four tackles and one assist and Jeffery Moss had two tackles and for assists.

The Tigers will be on the road to play Georgiana next Friday night.
