A one-vehicle accident on Interstate 65 near Letohatchee in Lowndes County Wednesday night resulted in one fatality, according to State Troopers and Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency Director Walter Hill.

Troopers said a single-vehicle tractor-trailer crash yesterday claimed the life of John Kirksey, 69, of Covington, Ga.

Kirksey was “killed when the 2001 Western Star truck he was driving left the roadway, overturned and caught fire,” Sergeant Steve Jarrett of the Alabama Department of Public Safety Public Information/Education Unit said. “The crash occurred at 6:05 p.m. on Interstate 65, six miles north of Fort Deposit.”

No further information is available at this time as State Troopers continue to investigate, Jarrett said.
