Lecture series continues tonight

In the Footprints of the Creeks,” Presentations Commemorating the Creek War and War of 1812 will continue in Lowndesboro at the historic CME Churc tonight, Thursday, April 5, and May 3 at 6:30 p.m.
The Lowndesboro Landmarks Foundation invites the public to attend these free special events, which are part of a series of presentations commemorating the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the Creek War.
Through history, archaeology, and a study of historic illustrations, scholars will interpret the significance of events surrounding the war and portray the culture of a Creek Nation that impacted American expansion.
A reception and book sales will follow at Marengo House across the street.
The Alabama Humanities Foundation, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities is co-sponsoring this project.
Seating will be limited and available on a first come first serve basis.
Thursday, April 5 will feature “The story of Fort Mims, Manack Tavern and the Battle of Holy Ground” by: Dr. Gregory Waselkov, University of South Alabama professor and author.
