Lowndes Academy week eight basketball update
The Lowndes Academy boys’ and girls’ basketball teams experienced both success and failure following their matchups during the week of January 24.
On Monday, January 24, the varsity girls beat Meadowview 60-18.
Molly Powell led the team with 15 points, two rebounds, nine assists, and four steals.
Haley Briggs scored 12 points with two rebounds and one steal.
Harley Hooper scored nine points with one rebound, one assist, and two steals.
Riley Lane scored eight points with one rebound, one assist, and two steals.
Brooke Thomas scored six points with two rebounds and one assist.
Cameron Hess scored four points with two rebounds and two steals.
CJ Forest and Abigail Glushick, Ashlyn Holley scored two points each.
Forest had three rebounds, while Glushick had two rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block.
Holley had four rebounds and one steal.
The varsity boys also managed to defeat Meadowview 68-31.
Parker Harris led the team with 12 points, one rebound, two assists, and three steals.
Clayton Hussey scored 11 points with three rebounds, six assists, four steals, and one block.
Colby Briggs had a double-double consisting of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Briggs also had one assist and two steals.
Jackson Self and Watters Box scored seven points each.
Self had four rebounds, one assist, and one steal, while Box had one rebound, one assist, and one steal.
Tyler Tyus scored six with four rebounds.
Ashton Yelder scored five points with ten rebounds.
Pierson Hull scored four points.
Trey Thomas, Luke Lovell, and Chase Rudder scored two points.
Thomas had three rebounds and one steal, while Lovell and Rudder had two rebounds and one steal each.
On Tuesday, January 25, the varsity girls beat Escambia 58-31.
Powell and Briggs had a double-double.
Powell’s double-double consisted of 12 points and ten rebounds. She also managed nine assists and three steals.
Briggs’s double-double consisted of 19 points and 17 rebounds. She also managed four assists and one steal.
Hooper scored 16 points with two rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Glushick scored seven points with three rebounds, five assists, and one steal.
Ashlyn Holley and Hess each scored two points.
Holley had five rebounds, one assist, and three steals, while Hess had one rebound, one assist, and one steal.
The varsity girls are 13-5 with a 4-2 record for area play and will play second seed in the state tournament against Patrician Academy this afternoon, starting at 5 p.m.
The varsity boys, however, lost to Escambia 33-30.
Briggs led the team with nine points, eight rebounds, one steal, and two blocks.
Harris scored eight points with three rebounds, one assist, and three steals.
Hussey scored seven points with five rebounds, four assists, one steal, and two blocks.
Self scored four points with four rebounds, one assist, and two blocks.
Yelder scored two points with six rebounds and one steal.
The varsity boys are 16-3 with a 4-2 record in area play and will play second seed in the state tournament against South Choctaw this afternoon starting at 6 p.m.
