The Lowndes County Children’s Policy Council held its 4th Annual Sheriff John Williams Memorial Scholarship awards ceremony on May 8. The awards were presented in the main courtroom of the Lowndes County Courthouse by District Judge Adrian Johnson.
The council awards scholarships to honor Williams’s memory each year, thanks to the generosity of community partners. This year, funds raised permitted the council to award $2,000 scholarships to Ja’Tyus Axel from The Calhoun School and Albert Ashley III from Lowndes Academy as well as Coleeta Pugh and Jaderian Bell from Central High School. Two former Lowndes County students, LaDerrian McCall and Damaria Johnson, were awarded $1,000 each to help with college expenses.
