Lowndes County Public Schools are gearing up for an exciting and enriching summer program, set to take place from June 3-27.

Central, Fort Deposit, and Jackson-Steele elementary schools will be at the forefront of the program, each hosting and experience designed to engage and educate students from kindergarten to fifth grade.

Demond Mullins, LCPS Director of Curriculum and Federal Programs, highlighted the importance of the summer program and expressed his hopes for the students at the end of it.

“The Summer program at Lowndes County Public Schools is more than just a way to fill the gap between school years,” Mullins said. “It’s an opportunity for students to continue learning, growing, and exploring new interests in a supportive and engaging environment. By focusing on literacy, numeracy, and enrichment, the program aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed, both academically and beyond.”

The elementary program, running from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., will cater to different grade levels. Kindergarten through third graders will concentrate on enhancing their literacy skills, ensuring they have the foundational reading and comprehension abilities necessary for success. Meanwhile, fourth and fifth graders will dive into mathematics, sharpening their numerical proficiency and problem-solving capabilities.

All students will have the opportunity to participate in a range of enrichment activities that promise to make learning fun and engaging.

Although the program is open to all students, participation in the literacy and numeracy segments is mandatory for certain students identified under the Literacy and Numeracy Act. This targeted approach ensures that students who may need additional support in these crucial areas receive the attention they require to thrive academically.

Lowndes County and Hayneville middle schools are also offering a summer enrichment program. The program aims to provide a holistic educational experience, covering a variety of subjects and activities to keep students engaged and excited about learning.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided at all schools, ensuring that students have the fuel they need to make the most of their day. Additionally, transportation will be available, making it easier for students to attend and participate in the program.

Students can look forward to educational field trips, providing them with hands-on learning experiences outside the classroom and expanding their horizons.
