NAMI offers virtual family education

NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness) of Alabama is providing a virtual family education program (on zoom) beginning May 9 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. The NAMI Family-to-Family Program is a free eight-week educational opportunity for families and significant others of people with mental health conditions. 

The course is taught by NAMI-trained family members who have been there, and includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises. The program is peer led by individuals who have been through similar situations, providing information and strategies for taking care of a loved one. 

Course topics include problem solving and effective communication; self-care and stress management strategies; supporting with compassion; finding and using local services; up-to-date information on mental health conditions, treatments and medications as well as instruction on managing a mental health crisis.
