Plans are underway for the next Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s severe weather preparedness workshop. In its series, “Be Ready, Lowndes County,” almost 200 Lowndes County residents have received free NOAA weather radios since November of last year.

Partners have done an outstanding job providing free radios and materials to help residents prepare their severe weather plans. The March 18 workshop had 75 participants who registered and received radios.

Mayor Jacquelyn Boone purchased 75 radios for residents who attended the workshop. Previously, the Mayors of Hayneville, Mosses and White Hall purchased radios to give to stakeholders.

Mr. Bell of the ACE Hardware Store in Hayneville donated 30 radios for a class that was offered in Mt. Willing. This collaboration is so wonderful!.

During the workshops, presentations are made by representatives of the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, Alabama Department of Public Health, South Central Alabama Red Cross, South Central Alabama Development Commission and the Governor’s Office of Volunteer Services, Disaster Preparedness and Response.

The next scheduled workshop will be held April 11 at the Good Shepherd Community Center in Mosses. To register, call (334) 548-2315. Seating is limited and registration is required.
