With the start of baseball season, the Central High Lions have taken home an exciting victory over the Autaugaville Eagles.

The team traveled to face-off against the Eagles on Mar. 6 and emerged victorious with a final score of 13-1 to launch the season.

Tiger Rush, the Lions’ baseball coach, said that he was proud to see the team’s performance in the game and looks forward to seeing more progress as the season continues.

“It was wonderful to see the team performing the way they practiced,” Rush said. “On defense, we were slacking on pitching slightly during practices but then our pitcher really stepped up and the team was able to play great defense behind the pitcher. I want to improve on our batting and attitudes, but I hope the team can move forward as one.”

The Lions traveled again to face Autaugaville on Mar. 12 and the team kept the momentum going as they emerged victorious with a final score of 13-1.

Rush expressed his thanks for the coaching staff as well as the parents of the players.

“Our assistant coach has been doing an excellent job helping me with the team,” Rush said. “We have established a great routine that works. Also, I can’t leave the parents out because they are doing a wonderful job with the kids as well. They are especially helpful when it comes to making sure everyone is at practice on time and at games on time. Anything we need to help the baseball team; our parents are there to make it happen.”

Tiffany Crenshaw, a Lions baseball parent, said that it was a joy to attend the game and watch the team play their first game of the season.

“It was definitely a moment of assurance that this year is going to be an impeccable year for the young men,” Crenshaw said. “Our baseball athletes have the motivation, determination, and a large support system behind them. As the season progresses, I’m more than sure that they will learn even more credibility, and sportsmanship because we have some of the best coaches out there with them. Coach Rush isn’t new to coaching with the team but it is his first time being the head coach and I must say he’s doing an outstanding job.

“I feel that the players look up to him and value his leadership and the skills he has shown them as a coach and just as a regular person when he needs to be that for them. Coach Surles has also stepped in and has been working very well with the team ensuring that they know the importance of teamwork, respect for one another and how they should conduct themselves as young men.”
