With the start of baseball season, the Lowndes Academy Rebels baseball team has played an exciting collection of mashups.

The team hosted and won a March 2 tournament championship and players Grant Casey, Ashton Yelder, and Cooper Dansby were selected as MVPs on the All-Tournament team.

“We won our tournament this weekend, hosting 10 teams,” said head coach Shane Moye. “We had really good pitching by Clayton Hussey, Ashton Yelder, Grant Casey and Cooper Dansby.”

On Feb. 22, the Rebels traveled to meet the Lee-Scott Warriors and fell in a nail-biting 2-3 loss.

In a shutout game against Macon-East Academy Feb. 23, the Rebels fell to the Knights 11-0. On Feb. 26 the Rebels matched up against the Edgewood Wildcats, with the final score in the Wildcats’ favor, 13-8. The team played hard but was not able to take the win for the game.

The Rebels faced the Macon-East Knights again on Feb. 27 . The final score came out to be 14-1, with the Knights taking home the win.

Lowndes met the Edgewood Wildcats on Feb. 29, bringing home a 7-6 victory. The Rebels also challenged Sparta Academy for a 13-1 win over the Spartan Warriors.

Keeping up the momentum, the Rebels came out victorious in a March 2 tournament, beating the Edgewood Wildcats again 2-1. The next games brought the same results as the Rebels faced the Monroe Vols and Abbeville Christian Generals, ending with scores of 4-0 and 5-4 respectively.

Moye explained that the season started off slow, but the team has gelled and are improving with every game.

“We played good defense,” Moye said. “Grant Casey, Dominic Dugan and Ashton Yelder all led the team in RBIs for the weekend, so we are starting to click a little better.”

The Rebels will travel to Hope Hull on Mar. 7 to face off against the Hooper Academy Colts.
