District Spelling Bee inspires students

The Lowndes County Public Schools (LCPS) annual District Spelling Bee was held Feb. 13 at Lowndes County Middle School. The event brought together top spellers from across the district to compete. Participants consisted of ten winners from each of the five elementary and middle schools in second through eighth grade classes.
Securing the esteemed first place position was Zamiyah Lewis, a competitor representing Hayneville Middle School who also clinched the title of District Winner in the previous year’s competition. In second place was Amare’ Blackmon, another competitor hailing from Hayneville Middle School and finishing off the top three was Blake McCall who represented Lowndes County Middle School.
The Lowndes County Board of Education extends a special “thank you” is to the program’s announcer, Mrs. Hollie O’Neal, a retired LCPS library media specialist, and judges Ms. Jennifer Folmer, Mr. Jason Morgan and LaShawnta Carnes, LCPS employees whose unwavering commitment and enthusiasm added a touch of professionalism and warmth to the event.
