Communities across Lowndes County are gearing up to celebrate the holiday season with yuletide festivities including highly anticipated annual Christmas parades.
The Town of Hayneville prepared to host their annual Christmas Parade and toy drive to benefit Lowndes and Butler County Toys for Tots on Dec. 2, however due to inclement weather circumstances, the event was postponed. At the time of this article’s publication, a new date for the parade had not yet been announced.
On Dec. 16, Fort Deposit Mayor Jacquelyn Boone will host a Christmas Parade and Health Fair in partnership with Advancing Health Literacy, a project funded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health. The Health Fair will take place at the Armory in Fort Deposit from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and those in attendance will have the opportunity to receive vaccinations such as the flu shot and receive diabetes and blood pressure checks. The parade will begin at 12 p.m. near Lowndes Middle School and will travel along Old Fort Road.
The Town of White Hall prepares fort what has been referred to in the past as the “biggest festival of the year,” the White Hall Christmas Parade. Scheduled for Dec. 23, the event features family fun, food, vendors, music, Santa, and more.
The parade will begin promptly at 12 p.m. on Freedom Road. All organizations, clubs, and vendors are invited to join in the festivities. To register for the parade, interested individuals can visit www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZJ3TFYD. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 21.
Organizers of the event are seeking donations of new, unwrapped toys for local children through Dec. 22 in lieu of payment for parade registration. Donations can be dropped off at the White Hall Municipal Complex.
