The Lowndes County Board of Education recently held a Donuts with Dad event for Head Start students.
On November 19, 2021, dads, granddads and father figures were invited to have donuts with their student at the Central Head Start, Fort Deposit Head Start, and Jackson-Steele Head Start campuses between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.
The turnout was good with Central having 13 participants, Fort Deposit 14 participants, and Jackson-Steele 10 participants.
“Research shows that when fathers are engaged in their child’s education, students’ grades and test scores improve, attendance increases, and they tend to be more involved in activities,” Laura Hunter, family and community partnerships manager for Lowndes County Board of Education Head Start, said. “A total of 37 gentlemen attended the event and the families will receive the PFCE Goal #2 (Positive-Parent-Child Relationships). Our agency appreciates our dads and male figures!”
