The baseball field at Hayneville Junior High School was filled with good food, fun and fellowship as Hayneville High School’s classes celebrated a reunion Saturday.

Hundreds of people gathered to grill and share stories in the 90-degree heat and enjoy the day.

Louvenia Craig Young traveled from Gerogia to be at the reunion and was enjoying the festivities and spoke about the get together.

“It’s the Class of 79’s class reunion – they’re celebrating their 40th year, but they invited all of us,” she said. “I’m from the class of ’73 and they invited us to their cookout. We’ve got all of the different classes here.”

Young said her classmates enjoy getting together after decades of being out of high school.

“We always show up,” she said. “We’re cooking up hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and that sort of stuff. We celebrate all the time. We had had our 45th reunion last July.”

Young said 1968 was the first year for graduates at Hayneville High School.

“There 10 people in that class – nine girls and one boy,” she said. “We had 34 in our class. We were – I think – the largest class. We stay connected. Every Christmas we try to have a Christmas gathering., as we get older, we’re going to try to get together a little more often.”

On Saturday more than 10 classes form the span of 1968 to 1984 were in attendance.

“This had been really nice,” Young concluded.
