Lowndes Academy head football coach Bob Taylor said following his team’s first loss of the season, “We did not do a good job with our second half adjustment and made too many mistakes.”

As Lowndes Academy has an open date Friday, Sept. 23 before facing non-regional opponent Wilcox Academy on Sept. 30, Taylor said, “The week off could not happen at a better time with all of the injuries that we have had the last couple of weeks.”

Christian Barkley scored first for Lowndes Academy on a 2-yard run. The 2-point play failed.

Chambers scored on a 2-yard run and made the 2-point play to take the lead 8-6.
Lowndes’ Jon Johnson threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Reid, who in turn threw to John Taylor for the 2-point conversion to put Lowndes up 14-8.

But Chambers scored on a 63-yard run and made the 2-point conversion to put the Chambers Academy Rebels on top 16-14.

Lowndes answered, however, when Johnson ran 9-yards for a touchdown, and Taylor’s extra point kick put Lowndes in the lead to 21-16.

Lowndes Academy appeared to pull away in this contest when Reid scored on a 47-yard run, and Taylor added the extra point to make a 28-16 contest in favor of the visiting Rebels.

Lowndes’ Mason McCurdy then stripped the ball from a Chambers player and ran it down to the 15. And Reid scored for the visitors to make it a 34-16 Lowndes Academy lead.

But Chambers scored after a Lowndes fumble on a 8-yard run to make the score Lowndes 34, Chambers 22 at the half.

As Taylor alluded to, the second half did not go so well for Lowndes.
Chambers scored on a 22-yard run, a 3 yard-run and a 45-yard pass and converted on one 2-point play to take a 42-34 lead.

Reid returned the kickoff 79 yards and made the 2-point conversion, however, to tie the game at 42 all.

But Chambers scored on a 20 and 10-yard runs and made a 2-point conversion to take the lead 56-42.

They added to their lead with a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown and added a 2-point conversion to stretch their lead to 64-42.

The home standing Chambers Academy Rebels then scored twice more and added an extra point to make the score 77-42.

Reid would score for Lowndes on a 45-yard run to make the final score 77-48 in favor of Chambers.

For the visiting Lowndes Academy Rebels, Reid had 17 carries for 143 yards and three rushing touchdowns, four catches for 53 yards and a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

His teammate Johnson was 9-16 passing for Lowndes Academy for 145 yards and one touchdown and one interception.

Lowndes will next see action on Sept. 30th at Wilcox Academy.
