The Calhoun Tigers opened the 2016 season under new head football coach Bill E. Lamar tonight, Friday, Aug. 19, on the road and falling to non-regional opponent Flomaton 48-8.
Gnald Sharpe, who scored the team’s only touchdown, had 139 yards receiving and 35 yards rushing. He caught a 72-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Lewis Smith. Smith threw for 135 yards rushed for 45 yards. Rodriguez Managan rushed for 85 yards. Jamichael Carter had nine tackles and six sacks. And Andre Carter scored the 2-point conversion.
The Tigers will look to rebound next Friday with their first home game of the season against non-regional opponent Keith.
The Central Lions under head football coach Martez Graham opened the season on the road Friday, Aug. 19 against non-regional opponent Holtville, but the game was stopped at the beginning of the second quarter due to lightning.
Holtville led the Lions 10-0 when the game was stopped.
The Lions will be on the road next Friday against non-regional opponent Bullock County.
The Lowndes Academy football game against Macon-East at home Friday, Aug. 19 was cancelled by the Alabama Independent School Association after four Lowndes Academy football players were injured, one critically, in an accident Thursday afternoon.
The Rebels will host Sumter at home next Friday.
