36-0, Rebels get third win with great defensive effort

The Lowndes Academy Rebels routed Southern Academy 36-0 on the road Friday night behind an outstanding defensive effort.
The win improved the Rebels to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in Class A Region 2 play.
The Rebels jumped on Southern early taking a 22-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Rebels’ Brandon Reid scored first on a 20-yard touchdown run. And John Taylor added the point after to make a 7-0 contest.
Reid followed that up with a 2-yard touchdown run, and Taylor added the point after to make it 14-0.
Wade Howard, returning to his quarterback duties after being out due to injury, next hit Gray Johnson with an 8-yard touchdown strike. And David Hussey ran in for the 2-point play to make it 22-0 in the first period.
Reid scored on a 7-yard run in the third quarter. And Taylor added the point after to make it a 29-0 contest.
Reid next returned a punt 58 yards for the final touchdown of the night. And Taylor nailed the point after to make it a 36-0 final.
On the night, Reid had 204 yards rushing on 16 carries and three touchdowns.
Howard went 8-17 passing for 128 yards and a touchdown.
Brian Rayburn had two carries for 45 yards and one catch for 24 yards. Hussey had four catches for 67 yards. And Johnson had two catches for 24 yards and a touchdown.
“Our defense played great,” said Lowndes Academy head football coach Bob Taylor. His Rebels held Southern to 176 yards.
On defense, Johnson had 12 tackles while Owen Nall had 11.
“I was really proud of our guys on defense,” said Taylor. “We still have work to to do to get better on offense.”
The Rebels return home Friday to host regional opponent Sparta.
