Both Calhoun and Central fell to visiting regional opponents on their home fields Friday night.
Class 2A Region 3 opponent Goshen proved rude visitors to Calhoun defeating the Tigers 36-8. And Class 2A Region 3 Regional opponent Luverne proved rude visitors to Central defeating the Lions 33-0.
Calhoun head football coach Dewayne Williams said his team’s performance Friday “wasn’t exciting because of turnovers.” But he said his team was missing some players in key positions.
He said that only means “we must stay the course and keep the faith (so) we can finish strong.”
For the Tigers Arthur Phifer scored a touchdown on a 30-yard one-handed pass reception late in the fourth quarter. And Gnald Sharpe scored the 2-point conversion.
Phifer had 50 yards rushing and 75 yards in pass receptions. Melvonte Fagg had two sacks for the Tigers.
Calhoun, 0-4,0-3, will travel to face non-regional opponent W.S. Neal this coming Friday.
Details of the Central contest were not available. Central, 0-4, 0-3, will travel this coming Friday to face non-regional opponent Autaugaville.
