A Sex Offender Compliance Operation conducted by the United States Marshals Service, the the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Deposit Police Department, covering all of Lowndes County on Wednesday resulted in two arrests with other arrests pending.
M. Dante Gordon, a deputy United States Marshal out of Montgomery, said there were a total of 46 sex offenders for whom compliance, address and employment verifications were conducted.
“Out of all of them that we checked, more than half were in compliance,” Gordon said. “We had a few that were not. And the next phase of the operation will be the warrant phase.”
Gordon said in the warrant phase, those who were not in compliance will be arrested.
He said during Wednesday’s operation two individuals were arrested.
Gordon said Eric Martin, approximately age 43, and Leon Myles, approximately 42, both of Hayneville were arrested.
He said Myles was arrested for probation violation from Lowndes County and Martin was arrested for possession of marijuana, unpaid child support and failure to register as a sex offender (violation of the Community Notification Act).
The operation was conducted today due to a request from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office for assistance in ensuring that their offenders were compliant, Gordon said.
