Four-vehicle accident in Fort Deposit claims one life

A four-vehicle crash on Alabama Highway 185 in the Ft Deposit town limit Monday night resulted in one fatality and one minor injury, according to State Troopers.

Sgt. Steve Jarrett, public information/education officer for the Alabama Department of Public Safety said, “A four-vehicle crash Monday, Jan. 20, claimed the life of a Fort Deposit woman, Clara Jordan, 64.”

Lowndes County Coroner Doris Alexander said the accident occurred within one mile of Jordan’s home on Old Fort Road. She said she pronounced Jordan dead at the scene at 5:41 p.m. on Jan. 20.

Jarrett said the crash occurred at 4:55 p.m. on Alabama 185 in Fort Deposit.

He said Jordan, “was killed when the vehicle she was driving collided with another vehicle.”

According Jarrett, “Jordan was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected in the collision.”

He also said another driver suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision.

Jarrett said nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
