And then there were five.
The White Hall Town Council is back to set of five council members with the swearing in of Ruby Dee Rudolph on Thursday night, Jan. 9, to fill Town Council Seat Two.

Rudolph defeated Jean Harris by an unofficial vote count of 111 to 87 in a special Dec. 17, 2013 council election.

She was elected to replace Walter Bates on the council, who resigned effective May 30, 2013.

The council previously appointed Glenn Mallard to replace Moses A. Bandy, who also resigned.

Bandy told the Signal that his resignation was due to his health and the stress of dealing with an ill family member.

Bates said, “There was a difference of opinion” regarding the way Bandy’s seat was filled,” and it was .”time for me to move along.”

White Hall Mayor James Walker administered the oath of office to Rudolph, who promptly took her seat at the council table.

Rudolph said the council needed another person and she feels good about serving. “because this is my community. I’ve been here all of my life.”

She said there were some things that have become inactive in the community and she feels she can help.

Rudolph is a resident of White Hall and the mother of five children, four girls and one boy. She said she is a member of First Baptist Church and is very spiritual.

She said, “I’ve been in this community, working in this community all of my life. I started a choir here some years ago, and everybody in this community knows me.”

She said she is not currently working, but expects to l return to work for Herff Jones Yearbook Company.

She completed Lowndes County Training School in Lowndes County, attended Alabama State, earned a business degree from Jones Commercial Business School in Chicago, and earned a cosmetology degree from John M. Patterson State Technical College in Montgomery.

Rudolph joins Walker, Mallard, Joyce Barnfield, Ceodis Baker and Audrey Peterson on the White Hall Town Council.
