Mallory Kate McCurdy of Lowndes County has been named an AISA Volleyball All-Star.
According to her volleyball coach Ron Wilkinson, she played at Lowndes Academy for six years excelling in basketball and softball and being an “excellent student.”
Wilkinson said, “Mallory is everything you could ask for in a student athlete. She does everything we ask her to do without complaint. She is like having another coach on the court. She will be greatly missed next year.”
Lowndes Academy volleyball wrapped up its season with a loss to Bessemer Academy(eventual State Champions) on Oct. 21 and finished with a overall 9-9 record.
This season the Lady Rebels beat both Hooper and Clarke Prep , teams the school has not beaten in the past six years.
“Along with McCurdy, we will be losing senior starters Paige Hill and Kailan Shepherd,” Wilkinson said. “We had an up and down season this year, and we struggled with learning how to build on our success and finish late in matches,” he said.
However Wilkinson said he was proud of the overall effort. “We have a talented group of eighth and ninth grade girls moving up along with our 10th and 11th graders. I believe we will have a bright future in the years to come.”
