The Rebels went into action Friday night without the services of junior quarterback Cody Harrell, who was expected to be out two weeks following a knee injury against South Choctaw.

Lowndes Academy head football coach Matt Marshall used a two quarterback system against the Cougars Friday night with different packages for freshman quarterback Wade Howard and senior quarterback Corey Lowe, who he said did a really good job.

On the night, Lowe was 3-6 passing for 50 yards and rushed six times for 50 yards, including a 5-yard rushing touchdown.

Howard was 1-2 passing for 42 yards and rushed six times for 47 yards.

Junior Thomas Ward had two rushing touchdowns for the Rebels of 12 yards and 4 yards.

Ward was also the leading rusher for the team with 130 yards on 13 carries and nabbed two interceptions on defense.

Junior Calvinar Thomas had nine rushes for 95 yards for the Rebels.

senior John Blackmon led the Rebels on defense with 12 tackles, six for loss of yards. Sophomore David Hussey had 11 tackles, and senior Seth Senn had 10 tackles.

β€œI was really proud for them, especially Wade Howard,” Marshall said his team’s performance. β€œHe came in and led all three touchdown drives down the field.”

Marshall said he was also proud of the defensive line, which stepped up and played really well.

The Rebels will host Wilcox Academy for another regional encounter on Oct. 11.
