Armed and dangerous suspect sought by sheriff’s office

The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Calhoun area man considered armed and dangerous in connection with a burglary and theft at The Calhoun School and a home invasion and robbery in Hayneville.

Lt. G. Lashun Hutson of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said the sheriff’s office is looking for suspect Deon Jenkins, a 27-year-old black male from the Calhoun area, “in connection with burglary (third degree) of The Calhoun High School and theft of property first.” Jenkins, Dionea

He said the incident occurred on April 20th of this year.

Hutson said there are also other persons of interest in connection with the incident at the school in which a brick was thrown through a back window, desktop and laptop computers as well as projectors were stolen and other items such as Smart Board were destroyed.

He said the sheriff’s office has felony warrants for Jenkins for those charges.

Hutson said Jenkins is also wanted in connection with crimes that occurred in Hayneville, including a home invasion, robbery first degree and burglary third degree. He said, “There are warrants out for his arrest for that.”

Hutson said the Hayneville incident occurred on July 13

He said Jenkins allegedly “broke a window, went through the window and attacked the homeowner… took a firearm (semi-automatic handgun) from him and then robbed him of some cash and other items that the homeowner had.”

Hutson said the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

“If somebody sees him, they can give me a call here at the sheriff’s office, 548-2222 or they can give Chief Kelvin Mitchell a call at the Hayneville Police Department (548-2128).”

Mitchell was unavailable for comment.
Hutson said callers may remain anonymous.
