Lanes open following U.S. 80 accident

Sergeant Steven Jarrett of the Alabama Department of Public Safety is reporting all lanes are open following an accident with injuries on U.S. 80 near Lowndesboro.
According to Jarrett, “On Friday, March 29 at 6:03 p.m. headquarters communications received a call in reference to a crash on U.S. 80 eastbound at the 117.5 mile marker involving a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle with the driver entrapped.”
At about 8:20 p.m. Jarrett reported, “All lanes are now open” and the driver of the car, who was entrapped “was taken to Baptist South by helicopter with serious injuries.”
He said the accident occurred at 5:55 p.m. in Lowndes county just east of Lowndesboro and the passenger vehicle was an SUV.
