A single-vehicle crash Saturday at 1:15 p.m. claimed the life of a Burkville man.

According to Sgt. Steve Jarrett of the Alabama Department of Public Safety,  Albert Charles Fleeton, 61, was killed when the 2001 Ford Mustang that he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree.

Fleeton was traveling south on Lowndes County Highway 37, five miles north of Hayneville.

“Fleeton was not wearing a seat belt, and preliminary investigation indicates that speeding and alcohol were factors in the crash,” Jarrett said

No further information is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
