The Fort Deposit Town Council went on record Monday night supporting a half cent sales tax increase to show good faith to the Lowndes County Commission toward the refinancing of its bond issue.
While a public hearing must be held before the tax increase is approved, according to Council member David Gravely, the council voted 3-0-1 to support increasing the sales tax by a half cent.
Voting in favor were Darrell Heartsell, Gravely and Irish Simmons. Elbert Lee Means abstained. Mayor Fletcher Fountain and Jacquline Boone were absent.
The council approved the minutes of the previous meeting and there were no objections to the financial report.
