The driver’s license examination office for Lowndes County will be open the second Wednesday of each month, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
The ALEA recently announced that beginning Nov. 1, ALEA will reopen a satellite office on a limited schedule in each county that lost services due to a reallocation of staffing after the recent budget cuts by the Legislature.
According to the scheduled, the Lowndes County driver’s license office will be open the second Wednesday of each month at 105 East Tuskeena St. in Hayneville.
The office in Butler County will be open the fourth Thursday of each month in Greenville and the Crenshaw County office located in Luverne will be open the third Wednesday of each month.
However in a recent Save OurSelves Caravan that visited Hayneville, Lowndes County Probate Judge John E. Hulett said, “We’ve got a county in Lowndes that’s got a driver’s license place set up; we’ve got free rent; and we are willing to pay a person to be here once a week. If the governor and the Legislature can’t see this, then there’s some problems in our Legislature.”
Lowndes County Commission Chairman Robert Harris also said he thought the governor should be able to listen to the governing body of the county in order for the office to be open one day per week.
