Lowndes Varsity Boys & Girls Advance to Elite 8

The Lowndes Academy boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have advanced to the elite eight following their first round matchups in the state tournament.

On Monday, February 1, the varsity girls played Patrician Academy and won 45-17.

Haley Briggs led the team and had a double-double consisting of 23 points and 11 rebounds. She also managed one steal and two blocks.

Molly Powell and Harley Hooper scored nine points each.

Powell also managed 10 rebounds, nine assists, six steals and one block.

Abigail Glushick scored three points with one rebound, four assists and one steal.

Cameron Hess scored one point with one rebound.

The varsity girls are currently on a five game winning streak.

The following day, Tuesday, February 2, the varsity boys beat South Choctaw Academy 71-18.

Colby Briggs led the team and had a double-double that consisted of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Briggs also managed one assist, two steals and two blocks throughout the game.

Jackson Self scored 13 points with six rebounds, one assist and four steals.

Parker Harris scored 11 points with two rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Watters Box scored six points with three rebounds.

Reid Owens scored five points with three rebounds.

Luke Lovell, Ashton Yelder and Clayton Hussey scored four points each.

Lovell had three rebounds. Yelder had two rebounds, one assist and one steal and Hussey had three rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Tyler Tyus and Chase Rudder each scored three points with two rebounds.

After this win, the boys are back on a winning streak.

The matchups for the Elite 8 will be held this week in Montgomery.
