The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) awarded more than $130,000 in Wellness and Education Grants to nonprofit organizations serving Lowndes County students and educators and those throughout the River Region. The grants were presented at a ceremony held Thursday, June 26, at the Wetumpka Impact Crater Discovery and Visitors Center.
Girls Scouts of Southern Alabama received $15,000 to provide membership fees for 333 girls in Lowndes, Macon and Montgomery counties to participate in school-based leadership programming. Hope Inspired Ministries of Lowndes County also gained a grant award of $6,000 to support Lowndes County employment training site by providing the gasoline costs for one van route addressing students’ transportation barriers.
“These grants support educational initiatives and wellness programs that foster academic success, promote youth development and create brighter futures across Central Alabama,” said CACF president Crenshaw Burton in a media release. “The event recognized the important work of organizations dedicated to strengthening communities through education and support services.”
For over 37 years, the Central Alabama Community Foundation has been a valued community partner and resource for nonprofits and students across the River Region, the Wiregrass and East Alabama. Through the generous support of individual and corporate donors, the foundation awards over $6 million annually in grants and scholarships to address diverse community needs.
“These funds support programs and projects in education, human services, health, cultural arts and other civic concerns,” Burton said. “Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals who live and work in these communities, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.”
