A partnership is bringing kickball back to “the 4-5” this Saturday, July 5.

Cousins Derelle Ivory with All Smiles Pressure Washing, and Latravis Brazil, owner of Freight Path, LLC are hosting their sixth annual, family fun day, relocating the event from Montgomery back to Hayneville. Featuring free food, music and bounce houses, the event will also include a family and friends kickball game for bragging rights and an MVP trophy.

“We wanted to do something that can merge kids and adults together,” Ivory said. “And kickball was the first thing I thought of.”

In 2019, Ivory hosted the first event, bringing Brazil on board to assist with expanding the effort.

“Latravis helped me push the idea and to make it bigger,” Ivory said. “Every year it has expanded both of our expectations.”

An uptick in Montgomery crimes hindered continuance of the event. While strategizing how to keep it growing, the Lowndes County natives made the decision that this year they would bring it home.

“It started in the E.D. Nixon community in Montgomery,” Ivory said. “The crime rate went through the roof and [city officials] weren’t letting anyone rent out parks. That’s when Latravis came up with the bright idea of taking it back home.

“Truthfully speaking, I’m glad that he had the idea, because we like having something we can give to people back home. It means everything to me.”

“I called [Hayneville Mayor Jimmie Davis] and told him we would like to have this event,” Brazil said. “We’re doing a community-friendly event for family and friends. It just spread like wildfire.

Beginning Saturday at 3:30, the event offers free snow cones, food for the community, a D.J. and bounce houses.

“We have a lot of family and friends coming out,” Brazil said. “This event became something bigger than we imagined. Not all families get together like when we were growing up. We felt like the Fourth of July was a good time for a big event to bring people together.”

Sponsors for the event are Freight Path LLC, White Enterprises, All Smiles Pressure Washing, GTL and S&J Transit.

Area residents are invited to the free event July 5, at 3:30 p.m. in Hayneville Park at 40 Peoples Street. Adult beverages and smoking are prohibited.
