Chamber hosts Juneteen prayer breakfast

The Lowndes County Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Juneteenth Celebration and Prayer Breakfast and Black Belt Civil and Voters Rights Historical Display on Thursday, June 19, 9 – 11 a.m. at Deepwoods Restaurant. The event’s theme centers around stimulating economic and community development growth in Lowndes County, a continuing conversation the chamber began at its May meeting.

According to Chamber president and executive director, Dr. Ozelle Hubert, several dignitaries were extended special invitations including Lowndes County District Judge Adrian Johnson, Alabama Conference of Black Mayors Executive Director Vicki Moore, Rep. Kelvin Lawrence, Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Director Ron Simmons, Rep. Katie Britt and Alabama Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate.

Chad Richardson, pastor at Lily Baptist Church in Letohatchee will lead prayer. Andrea Mosley, Small Business Center director at Alabama State University will serve as mistress of order.

Chastity Talley, a 2021 graduate of The Calhoun School, will deliver the occasion. Talley is also a graduate of Auburn University at Montgomery, where she earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Healthcare Administration.

Guest speaker, Sen. Robert Stewart will continue the chamber’s conversation around development efforts. Guests will also hear from students Shakerrie Walker, Aziya Flynn and Huston Hampton who attended the Huntingdon College Economic and Community Development Scholars program June 14 – 15.
