In a sentencing hearing held May 9, a man found guilty in the 2017 rape of a minor was sentenced to thirty years by a Lowndes County court.
Anricco Rashad Montgomery, 33, was booked into the Lowndes County Jail just after being found guilty in the Lowndes County Circuit Court on April 8. He was sentenced to serve thirty years in prison followed by 10 years of post-supervision.
Montgomery was also ordered by Circuit Judge Cleve Poole to pay a fine of $10,000, all court costs assessed by the Circuit Clerk and a compensation assessment of $1,000.
Montgomery was charged with two counts of first-degree rape, one based on age, the other based on the force of the crime. The defendant also faced two charges of first-degree sodomy.
According to District Attorney Charlotte Tesmer
“We asked [Poole] to sentence on the rape of a child [charge],” said District Attorney Charlotte Tesmer. “He got 30 years for sodomy one and rape one, then he got post-sentence supervision, which is standard for crimes involving a child.”
At the time of the crime, July 2017, the victim was just 10 years old. Now 18, Tesmer said she has worked to overcome what happened to her and was a part of bridging her perpetrator to justice.
“We finally got him tried,” Tesmer said. “The little girl is now 18, graduated and going into the armed services. She was a good witness and told the story of what happened to her [in a way] that has never changed.”
Montgomery remains in the Lowndes County Jail, awaiting transfer to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
