The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) assisted with the arrest of a man wanted on drug-related charges on Friday, April 25. The suspect, Desmen Jaman Murphy, 35, was taken into custody at his residence on Bloom Drive in Hayneville and charged with two counts possession of marijuana, first degree, two counts possession of controlled substances and two counts possession with intent to distribute.

Sheriff’s Investigator Randell Johnson said the Lowndes County SWAT team assisted with executing the arrest warrant for Murphy, partnering with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Greenville Police Department (GPD) SWAT team. The team recovered an undisclosed amount of marijuana and crack cocaine, Johnson said.

“ALEA was the leading agency,” Johnson said. “We executed the warrant and assisted with the investigation.”

A statement issued by ALEA confirms SBI special agents, officers assigned to the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force and ALEA SWAT joined the LCSO SWAT and Narcotics Units and GPD SWAT to execute simultaneous search warrants at two Hayneville locations. Murphy’s subsequent arrest landed him in the Lowndes County Jail with a total bond of $30,000.

Johnson said Murphy has been released on bond.

According to ALEA’s statement, nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. The agency will turn its findings over to District Attorney Charlotte Tesmer’s office once the investigation is complete.
