Lowndes County students awarded Alabama Cattlemen’s Foundation Scholarship

Lowndes County natives were honored among scholarship recipients at the Alabama Cattlemen’s Foundation (ACF) Scholarship Banquet held Friday, May 2, in Montgomery.

Riley Lane was awarded the Cecil Lane Family Scholarship. She is the daughter of Brad and April Lane of Lowndesboro and the great-granddaughter of the endowment honoree.

Lane will graduate from Lowndes Academy and plans to attend Auburn University to pursue a degree in Agricultural Business and Economics.

Ware Meadows was awarded the Tagged For Greatness Scholarship at the event. Also a student at Lowndes Academy, she is the daughter of Mack and Jennifer Meadows of Lowdesboro. Upon graduation, Meadows Mississippi State University to pursue a degree in biological sciences (pre-veterinary medicine). 

Reid Owen, the son of Mary Beth Mote and Hardie Owen of Hayneville, was also awarded the Tagged For Greatness Scholarship. He will graduate from Lowndes Academy and plans to attend University of West Alabama to pursue a degree in sports management.

Hope Holladay was awarded the Tagged for Civic Engagement Scholarship at the event. She is the daughter of Richard and Whitney Holladay of Hayneville. A graduate of John T. Morgan Academy, she attends Auburn University and is pursuing a degree in industrial and systems engineering.

Maggie Holladay was awarded the Tagged for Campus Involvement Scholarship. Also the daughter of Richard and Whitney Holladay, she is a graduate of Morgan attending Auburn to pursue a degree in agricultural communication.

The honorees were among 160 students awarded $152,750 in scholarships by the ACF, which serves to engage in educational and scientific activities to improve the beef cattle industry in Alabama and educate youth on the importance of beef cattle in Alabama. 

The ACF provides the opportunity to make tax deductible donations for the educational work of the foundation and is largely funded by the sale of the “Cowboy Tag” vanity license plate.  

Throughout the year, the ACF supports numerous organizations and events which help to educate and train future generations of the livestock industry. The ACF has awarded scholarship money each year to Alabama youth with more than $1.5 million being awarded to date.

The Alabama Cattlemen’s Association (ACA) is a service based non-profit organization founded in 1944 and headquartered on Capitol Hill in Montgomery. Producer and member driven, the ACA’s mission is to enhance the business climate of the state’s beef cattle industry, promoting a positive image while educating consumers that beef is a safe, wholesome, nutritious and convenient food product. The Association has county chapters in all 67 counties and represents 10,500 members statewide. It is also the Qualified State Beef Council in Alabama.
