The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) held a ceremony Monday, May 5, to announce grant awards for organizations serving Central Alabama families to meet their food, family and medical needs.
Held at That’s My Child in Montgomery, the ceremony highlighted nonprofit organizations receiving grants from the CACF to aid in their efforts addressing food security, family support and medical assistance and improve the lives of families across the region. Passing out a total of $1874,652 in funding, the foundation awarded grants for a few efforts serving Lowndes County.
- $7,922 to Legal Services of Alabama: supporting the cost of a staff attorney providing eviction defense for clients without representation who meet an income threshold;
- $6,758 to Medical Outreach Ministries: supporting the cost of free medications for uninsured, low-income adult clients in Lowndes and Montgomery counties;
- $20,000 to Medical Outreach Ministries: supporting costs of the free one-on-one Diabetes Self Management Education Program including medications and testing supplies for participants;
- $15,000 to The Wellness Coalition: supporting the costs of group education sessions and case management services for improving diabetes self-management for people who have diabetes and little or no health insurance;
The CACF partners with and provides resources for nonprofits and students across Alabama’s River Region, the Wiregrass and East Alabama, serving communities for over 37 years. Over $6 million in grants and scholarships are awarded annually to address diverse community needs.
Through the generosity of individuals and corporate donors, funds support programs and projects in areas of education, human services, health, cultural arts and other civic concerns.
“Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals who live and work in these communities, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come,” said CACF President Burton Crenshaw.
