Ashton White, a student at Jackson-Steele Elementary School shines among his peers, brightly and unashamedly displaying a vivid example of good character. Recommended for the Lowndes County Children’s Policy (CPC) Council Character in Action (CIA) Award, White was announced as the April winner on Tuesday.
White was nominated for recognition by Jackson-Steele Elementary School Principal Shana Ervin, who described him as a helper who consistently models character in action.
“His unwavering dedication, compassion, and work ethic make him a shining example of true character in action,” Ervin said in the nomination. “Ashton’s presence is felt throughout the school, as he consistently goes out of his way to help others succeed and to create a positive, inclusive atmosphere.”
The CIA program aims to recognize students who exemplify good character and to reward them for their efforts. According to CPC Chairman, District Judge Adrian Johnson, the initiative is aimed at promoting positive character traits and good behaviors.
According to Ervin, White consistently models kindness and generosity.
“They are a part of who he is, evident in every interaction he has, whether he’s tutoring a friend, supporting classmates or helping out around the school,” she said. “Ashton is also an honor student who maintains high academic standards, demonstrating that excellence and empathy can go hand in hand.”
The policy council rewards CIA winners with a certificate, program t-shirt and a $100 gift card. The students receive their award in the presence of Johnson, school administrators and their family.
In addition to shining as a servant leader, White balances academic achievement, integrity and dedication — all of which make him a true example of good citizenship, Ervin said.
“Ashton’s ability to balance academic achievement with a sincere commitment to others reflects his remarkable maturity and integrity,” Ervin said. “He embodies all the qualities the Character in Action Award celebrates. With his hard work, genuine spirit, and positive influence on those around him, Ashton exemplifies what it means to lead by example and to inspire others through kindness, service, and dedication.”
