The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles denied the parole petition recently from an inmate serving 30 years for robbery in Lowndes County.
On April 3, the board voted to deny Demetric Devon Smith, 35, parole. Smith is housed at Easterling Correctional Center and has served 10 years and two months of a sentence for first-degree robbery conviction handed down in May 2015.
Speaking on behalf of Smith’s parole, his mother, Annie Lewis, appeared before the board. Bill Lisenby with Victims of Crime and Leniency (VOCAL) joined District Attorney Charlotte Tesmer’s Victim Service Officer Sarah Deneve in opposing Smith’s parole.
A reset date of April 2027 was scheduled for Smith’s next parole hearing.
The board held 19 parole hearings on April 3, granting three and denying 16. The board also held ten hearings on pardon requests, granting six and denying four.
