Florida man cycles across America to lay brother to rest

Trey’s brother Troy died 10 weeks ago during Bike Week in Daytona Beach, Florida. Now the Naples, Florida man is on a pilgrimage across America, cycling from Tallahassee, Florida to Bismark North Dakota to lay Troy’s ashes to rest.

He calls his journey “Trey for Troy,” preferring to keep his and his brother’s surnames out of the media. Now on day 12 of his journey, Trey said he heard about the food Mary Bell serves at DeepWoods while passing through Butler County and was determined to stop for lunch while cycling up Alabama Highway 97.

“My brother was killed at Daytona Bike Week,” Trey said. “We’ve had his ashes sewn into the [American] flag. I’ve got him here, and I’ve got him in a crystal on my helmet.”

Bell served up a complimentary lunch plate for Trey, who enjoyed her meatloaf, rice and corn while he rested and talked with Lowndes County Sheriff Chris West and Black Belt Unincorporated Wastewater Program (BBUWP) Executive Director Sherry Bradley, who had just arrived at DeepWoods when Trey stopped in. Bradley donated to Trey on behalf of BBUWP.

“This is Trey for Troy,” Trey explained when asked for his name. “I’m on a military ride from Tallahassee to Bismark, capital by capital.

The next planned stop for Trey was Selma, where he hoped to find a room to rest. Be on the lookout for him as he travels northwest to take his brother home.
