Lowndes County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in Hayneville Monday, March 10. The call resulted in the arrest of a Hayneville man on drug-related charges.
Tommy Addison, 43, was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and persons prohibited from possessing a weapon.
According to Sheriff’s investigator, Lt. Randell Johnson, deputies Michael Canalin and Antavione Ferguson responded to a domestic violence call for help around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning at the Edgewood Apartments in Hayneville and discovered Addison, the aggressor, arguing with his girlfriend, Marqueeta Washington. While at the residents, deputies said a backpack in Addison’s possession emitted a heavy odor of marijuana, leading deputies to request investigators join them on the scene.
“Deputies said Mr. Addison was a little rowdy and they detained him as the aggressor,” Johnson said. “He was arguing with his girlfriend and while they were dealing with him, they noticed a backpack that was in his possession. [The bag] had guns and drugs in it.”
Upon opening the bag, deputies discovered an AR pistol and a small amount of marijuana. A further search of the residence by investigators Johnson, Corp. Colby Adams, Corp. Maranda Timmons and Corp. Peirce Vongsavanh and commander, Lt. Tony Green, recovered three handguns, a rifle, serial 100 rounds of ammunition, narcotics, powder cocaine and approximately 123 grams of marijuana.
“What we found inside the apartment was [supplies indicating] he was trying to make something,” Johnson said. “We don’t know exactly yet until the [results] get back from the lab. He had some X (Ecstasy) pills that were crushed up because he was mixing it with other drugs.”
Addison was taken into custody and has already made bail.
“Due to the deputies’ rapid response to the domestic call, they were successfully able to stop the suspect from leaving [the scene],” said Acting Parol Commander Rene’ Webster. “I appreciate their drive and awareness on the scene, which allowed them to locate a loaded gun on the sofa, in plain view.
“Thanks to Ferguson and Canalin, we removed drugs out of Lowndes County,” Webster said.
