The Hayneville Municipal Court welcomed a new judge Tuesday. Probate Judge Lashandra Myrick administered the oath of office, installing newly-sworn Judge Kameisha Logan to fill the seat vacated by retired Judge Fred Bell.
“I, Kameisha Logan, solemnly swear or affirm, as the case may be, that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the state of Alabama,” Logan said as she pledged to faithfully and honestly discharge the duties of the office.
Logan is a Selma native and new to the 4-5 but eager to serve the people of Lowndes County. She has five years’ experience practicing law and is a graduate of Alabama State University, with a master’s degree from Troy University. She studied law at the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, where she earned a joint Juris Doctorate degree alongside her LL.M. (Master of Law).
“I’m from Selma, born and raised,” Logan said. “I moved back home in 2020 when I opened up my law firm, K. Logan Law Firm.”
Logan said her inspiration for practicing law and pursing a judge’s seat was founded in a desire to seek justice reforms.
“My ultimate goal is to do criminal justice reform work,” Logan said. “I want to help reform the criminal justice system because it needs a lot of reforming. Being an advocate for people, being a voice of the voiceless and knowing that I can stand up for [people] and help someone’s life, that is what made me go to law school.”
Hayneville Mayor Jimmie Davis expressed his confidence in Logan as the presiding officer of the town’s court.
“I think Miss Logan will be a good asset to the town of Hayneville,” Davis said. “She’s got all the credentials. During the interview, we talked about different things, and she seemed to have a good, level head.”
From Hayneville’s courtroom, Logan said she aims to ensure that justice prevails for the people of Lowndes County.
“I want to make sure that everyone, when they come through the doors of the courtroom, that they have a fair chance,” she said. “I’m going to be unbiased. I want to hear both sides of the story and decide according to what the law tells me. We’re going to make sure the law is upheld.”
