The Lowndes County Public Schools hosted a district-wide science fair Feb. 4. Middle school and high school student-scientists showed off their research and findings and were judged for first-, second- and third-place awards and overall middle school and high school championships.
The winners are:
Middle School
- 1st Place – Jayla Derrico from Hayneville Middle School (HMS) with “Do Natural or Chemical Fertilizer Work Better
- 2nd Place – Romilia Myles from HMS with “Liquids and Plant Growth”
- 3rd Place – Jamaya Milliner from Lowndes Middle School with “Liquid vs. Gummies”
- Overall Science Fair – Peyton Martin from HMS with “Water Loss in Plants
High School
- 1st Place – Jaida Davis from Central High School with “Assessing Water Qualities”
- 2nd Place – Zamiya Lewis from Central with “Hydroponic”
- 3rd Place – Zaniya Fleeton, Jaden Gray and Robert Sellers from The Calhoun School with “How Temperature Affects Alka Selzer Reaction Rate
- Overall – Azaria Bell and Chasity Barganier from Central with “Effects of Chemical in Hairsprays”
