Pesticide Training

A Private Pesticide Applicator Training and Testing session will be held Feb. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 8493 U.S. Highway 80 in Hayneville. The cost for the class is $20. No cash please. Permits valid for 3 years cost $25 upon passing the exam. To register, call (334) 548-2315.

Weed Management

Alabama Extension will host a Pasture and Hay Field Weed Management Meeting Feb. 18, 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the Sportsman’s Lodge in Tyler. The event is free but registration is required. Visit www.aces.edu/event/pasture-and-hay-field-weed-management-meeting-tyler-2-18/ for information.

Pre-K Program

First Years Child Development Center, First Class Pre-K offers a free 4-year-old program from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for working parents and 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for non-working parents. Classes start in August. Space is limited. Call Katina Surles at (334) 281-8627 for more information.

LCUWP Applications

The Lowndes County Unincorporated Wastewater Project is accepting applications for septic system installation or repair at its office located at 507 W. Tuskeena Street in Hayneville. Call (334) 548-2006 or stop by Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an application.

Head Start

The Lowndes County BOE has opened Head Start registration for children ages 3 and 4 for the 2024-2025 program year. Current immunization records, proof of income, and proof of age are required to register. Call (334) 548-2145 or visit www.lowndesboeheadstart.org for information.

Tax Holiday

Alabama’s Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is set for Feb. 21 – 23. Eligible items include batteries, weather radios, flashlights, tarps, plywood, coolers, first aid kits, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors and other items under $60 plus portable generators and cords under $1,000. Game Supper

Career Expo

The Lowndes County Career Technical Center is hosting a Career Fair for 10 – 11th graders, Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. The event, hosted by The Calhoun School, offers rotating industry stations for students to explore.

DAV Meetings

Quilt Gallery
