Iyanis Wallace was voted Lowndes County Athlete of the Week for Week 16 in the contest which ended Jan. 21. He is a senior and a multi-sport student athlete at Central High School in Hayneville. He was nominated for the second week in a row because he is a vital part of the Lions’ success on the hardwood. This season, he has averaged 14 points per game and scored 33 points in Central’s Jan. 14 defeat of the Highland Home Flying Squadron, 81 – 67.
Wallace earned the honor this week by capturing 44%, 165 out of 372 votes cast in the contest.
Haylon Self at Lowndes Academy and Ladarius Thigpen from Central were also nominated for their athleticism and setting the standard for excellence on and off the field. Congratulations to Self and Thigpen for being nominated this week.
Athlete of the Week is made possible by the joint efforts of The Lowndes Signal and Lowndes County Public Schools Athletic Director Ervin Starr and sponsors, the Black Belt Unincorporated Wastewater Program and the Hayneville QV, as well as the cooperation of the coaches and administration of Central High School, Lowndes Academy, and The Calhoun School.
