Water Operator

DAV Meetings

The DAV William “Bill” Cannion Chapter 100 meets the second Saturday of each month, from 8-9 a.m. at the Lowndes County Board of Education at 80 Commerce Street South in Hayneville. All veterans are invited to participate. For information, please call or text (281) 416-6156.

Servsafe Course

A Servsafe Managers Course will be held at the Lowndes County Board of Education at 80 Commerce Street South in Hayneville on Feb. 10 – 11, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $150 (book included) or $80 (book not included). Call (334) 703-2237.

Food Safety

Lowndes County Extension Office will host a Cottage Food Safety Training on Feb. 11, 5 – 8 p.m. at 205 East Tuskeena Street Room 125, Courthouse Annex in Hayneville. There is a $25 certification fee. For more information, call (334) 703-2237.

Pesticide Training

A Private Pesticide Applicator Training and Testing session will be held Feb. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 8493 U.S. Highway 80 in Hayneville. Cost for the class is $20. No cash please. Permits valid for 3 years cost $25 upon passing the exam. To register, call (334) 548-2315.

Weed Management

Alabama Extension will host a Pasture and Hay Field Weed Management Meeting Feb. 18, 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the Sportsman’s Lodge in Tyler. The event is free but registration is required. Visit www.aces.edu/event/pasture-and-hay-field-weed-management-meeting-tyler-2-18/ for information.

Mom Classes

Pre-K Program

First Years Child Development Center, First Class Pre-K offers a free 4-year-old program from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for working parents and 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for non-working parents. Classes start in August. Space is limited. Call Katina Surles at (334) 281-8627 for more information.

LCUWP Applications

The Lowndes County Unincorporated Wastewater Project is accepting applications for septic system installation or repair at its office located at 507 W. Tuskeena Street in Hayneville. Call (334) 548-2006 or stop by Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an application.

Head Start

The Lowndes County BOE has opened Head Start registration for children ages 3 and 4 for the 2024-2025 program year. Current immunization records, proof of income, and proof of age are required to register. Call (334) 548-2145 or visit www.lowndesboeheadstart.org for information.

Game Supper

Ancestry Tree

Commemorate and honor family members who shaped the history of Lowndes County by creating a family ancestry tree to display during the Lowndes County segment of the Selma-Montgomery March event on March 22, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Early entry deadline is March 8. March Commemoration

Quilt Gallery

On March 27, the Cotton Street Gallery in Andalusia will host the Gee’s Bend quilters at the Andalusia Train Depot with an interactive demonstration from 3 – 6 p.m. and a lecture from 6 – 7 p.m. tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children. For information email swiggins@airartists.org
