Career Technical Center recognizes teacher, student excellence

The Lowndes County Career Technical Center recognized a teacher and seven students Thursday, naming them to a list of monthly winners among those nominated for excellence in the career preparedness program.

Kelsey Thomas received a certificate of appreciation from center administrators and was named as Teacher of the Month. Thomas serves as general agriscience instructor, teaching foundational, intermediate and advanced agriscience courses. Thomas was recognized for outstanding progress in the agriscience program.

“This semester, he has demonstrated remarkable growth in his CTE program,” LCCTE administrators shared on social media. “Mr. Thomas consistently introduces innovative opportunities for his students and works diligently to ensure they earn their college and career readiness (CCR) credentials before leaving his classroom. He is not only dedicated to his students but also goes above and beyond to support his colleagues.”

One program participant, Junior Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Cadet Shawnquarius McGhee, is described as a rising leader who recently joined the Marine Corps on Nov. 25. He was nominated by his JRTOC instructor, Msgt Bruce Reeves for having a leadership style that demonstrates good character, teamwork and selfless service qualities. McGhee also excels in the classroom, maintaining a high-grade point average (GPA). 

Zy’Riah White received recognition for showing significant progress in the JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) classroom. She works to better herself and show her growth. Mrs. Morrison is very proud of the students she has become. 

“Miss White shows great initiative and always has great ideas for helping others,” said JAG Specialist, Chantrice Morrison. 

Welding student, Calvin McCall was nominated by his instructor, Jarod Pope for displaying leadership skills and character education through compassion, honesty, trustworthiness, optimism and responsibility. 

Thomas recommended Ernasia Mathews as student of the month for her significant academic progress in fundamental agriscience classroom learning. 

“She does an exceptional job helping assist her peers in the classroom or in the shop,” administrators said.

Business program student, Hezekiah Manora has shown leadership and a strong desire to learn passing both his Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint 2019 certification.

“Mr. Manora is always respectful and helpful to his teacher and classmates. He is quick to offer assistance when someone needs help, and his positive attitude makes him a great member of his Business Software Applications class,” said business instructor Bridget Davis. “Hezekiah sets a wonderful example for others with his respect and teamwork.”

Career Center instructors said Jakayden Seawright has been eagerly assisting students in preparing for their IT Fundamental certification exam. He is described as someone who is always one of the first students to volunteer to complete lab simulations on the smartboard. Kaneka Threatt, who nominated Seawright, said he displays patience and compassion when assisting students in the classroom.
